If you haven't had a chance to see it, here's a You Tube of me, Roy Wiegand, and Jimmy Ogden playing (what else) the "Beer Barrel Polka" on the Jimmy Kimmel show as atmosphere for the Sam Adams Stein Holding Finals. The 2 winners won a free trip for 2 to Munich's Oktoberfest in Germany - a heck of prize! You have to look close to see us. We're on the far left. I don't know why they didn't put us up front. The accordion is a lot heavier than a stein of beer.
Here's our latest recording...
I bought an actual digital Tascam recorder a couple of weeks ago and Mick and I laid down the tracks to an old Santos and Johnny tune from the 50's - "Sleepwalk". Everybody loves this tune but not too many remember it's name. We really enjoy playing it and it shows off Mick on the guitar. Remember, this is just us - there are no MIDI tracks or pre-recorded tracks what so ever. What you hear is what we sound like live using the instruments at our fingertips.
A rare peek...
Here's the band from backstage with a simple medley of danceable, instrumental ballads
Let's kick it up a notch...
So good even the mimes were speechless.
Mick takes the lead on one of his favorite romantic oldies. It's the first video of the three of us.
Jim's solo demo (instrumentals)
Here are snippets of 4 different songs done live - no tapes, MIDI, or overdubbing. This is just me with all of my instruments.
Learn how accordions are made
Here's a YouTube video from the Science Channel on what goes into making an accordion. I'm having one custom made for myself. It'll take about 6 months. I can hardly wait.
Learning about the accordion - the bayan specifically...
This may be a little wonky and a little long (over 30 min.) but for those of you with an interest in accordions with buttons on both the right and left side of an accordion or even accordions in general, this is for you. I couldn't play one of these if you put a gun to my head but I finally learned how the right hand buttons were organized. I'll probably never play one but now I "know the rest of the story".
Now that you know how it works, watch a master at playing one... What a talent.
No that's not me, but thank you. BTW, he's playing the new Roland FR8x. It's strictly electronic. There are no reeds in it.
Cotati Accordion Festival
I've talked about the Cotati Accordion Festival for years and have been invited to play for the past 5 years as well as the up-coming festival in August.
Getting ready to play
The hour it takes to set up has been compressed into a 3-minute silent movie. Most people aren't aware of the preparation it takes for me to perform. Don't forget - at the end of the gig, all this has to be packed up and put back on the truck. You guessed it - another hour. (Music used under Creative Commons from : Kevin MacLeod)
